Legacy Grants for Student Health: Independence School District

🌟 Exciting News: Grants Making a Difference in Student Health! 🌟

An important part of our mission is school health grants. In 2018, we embarked on a journey with Independence School District as one of our first partners. Fast forward to today, and we're thrilled to celebrate the impact of Legacy Grants for Student Health, with Independence School District leading the way!

A heartfelt thank you to Lori Halsey (ISD Health Services Director), whose invaluable input has shaped our program, allowing us to address a diverse range of needs across 12 school districts and three charter schools, all serving a high number of children who qualify for free and reduced lunches.

This year, Independence School District received a $25,000 grant, bringing their total support from 2017 to an impressive $150,000. So, what did this grant accomplish? Let's break it down:

✨ 58 Replacement Pads for AED’s

✨ 14 Otoscopes

✨ 7 Wheelchairs

✨ 2 Tourniquet Kits

✨ 18 Pulse Oximeters

These essential supplies and equipment ensure that the health needs of students are met promptly and effectively. Nurses, often the first responders to a child in need, play a crucial role in creating a healthy and supportive school environment. We take pride in supplying Independence School District and other schools in the region with top-notch resources, making a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.

As we reflect on our journey, we extend our gratitude to Independence School District for being a beacon of positive change. Together, we're making strides in providing quality healthcare to students, fostering a community where every child can thrive. Here's to the past, present, and future of the Legacy Grants program, dedicated to building a healthier and happier tomorrow for our students!

LGSH: AcruxKC's invitation-only Legacy Grants for Student Health improve the health of school communities through programs and purchases that directly address students' physical and/or mental health needs. Grants are awarded to districts and schools with significant free/reduced-cost school lunch program enrollment. In 2022, AcruxKC awarded its fourth round of Legacy Grants, distributing a total of $223,000 to 12 districts and four charter schools in KS and MO. Funds are awarded for: asthma treatment supplies, health screening equipment, AEDs, mental health training, and emergency preparedness training. Grants are targeted to districts and schools with high percentages of students enrolled in the free and reduced-cost school lunch program; in excess of 100,000 students across the region may benefit from these investments. Launched in 2017, the LGSH program has invested over $1MM into area schools. In 2020, AcruxKC awarded nearly $100,000 to its LGSH partners for pandemic relief efforts.
